Research interests

His research focuses on how the activation of different stimuli such as chemotherapy, hypoxia, inflammation, or diet could be regulating the cargo and/or secretion of extracellular vesicles/exosomes derived from tumor cells. In addition, he studies the ability of these extracellular vesicles/exosomes to transfer pro-tumorigenic properties to different cells of the tumor microenvironment to promote the process of tumor progression

Dr. Manuel Varas-Godoy is Biochemist of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, and PhD in Biotechnology of the Universidad Andrés Bello. He performs his Postdoctoral fellow at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. He began his professional career as an Assistant Professor at the Universidad de los Andes. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Science at the Universidad San Sebastián. He is member of the Fondecyt Biology 2 Study Group being currently its Director, and he is Vice-president of the Chilean Society for Cell Biology

Teaching

Dr. Manuel Varas-Godoy participates in the courses of Molecular and Genetic Biology, and Cell Biology for the Medicine career of the Universidad San Sebastián. In addition, he participates in the Genomics and Proteomic course of the biochemistry career. He is member of the cloister of the Doctoral Program in Cell Biology and Biomedicine and the Doctoral Program in Immunology and Microbiology at Universidad San Sebastián, in which he participates in various courses such as Cell Biology, and Biomedicine
