    Personal profile

    Research interests

Dr. Cancino is a principal investigator at the Center for Cellular Biology and Biomedicine (CEBICEM). His main research topic is signaling between organelles and the functional interaction between membrane trafficking and other cellular functions. Among them, are lipid droplets and mitochondrial energy metabolism. Studying the cellular mechanisms of this functional integration could help to understand cellular homeostasis, which is relevant for potential therapeutic purposes in diseases such as cancer

    Personal profile

Dr. Cancino completed his Cellular and Molecular Biology Ph.D. at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Subsequently, he carried out postdoctoral stays at the Mario Negri Sud Institute of Pharmacology, and the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine in Italy. Upon his return to Chile, he served as an assistant professor at the Andrés Bello University. He is currently an Associate Professor and researcher at the Center for Cellular Biology and Biomedicine (CEBICEM) at the Faculty of Medicine and Science of San Sebastián University

    Teaching

Dr. Cancino has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in health fields such as Medical Technology and Dentistry. For undergraduate students, he taught courses in Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. In postgraduate, he is a member of the Doctorate in Cellular Biology and Biomedicine, participating in the Advanced Cellular Biology, Biomedicine, and Advanced Confocal Microscopy courses. In all these courses, the experience in research has been an important element to transfer the knowledge and contribution made in the scientific and technical aspects
