Personal profile

Research interests

Researcher at the University of San Sebastian. Her research is focused on studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for maintaining homeostasis and cellular recycling in response to extreme conditions of nutritional stress, inflammation, and drug exposure. Her laboratory is focused on understanding the mechanisms of cellular plasticity capable of ensuring cellular survival to extreme scenarios, knowledge that seeks to elucidate, among other objectives, molecular targets for intervention against the progression of breast cancer

Personal profile

Patricia Burgos earned her PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Catholic University of Chile. Subsequently, she completed two postdocs in the USA. First, at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, University of Colorado with a JDRF scholarship. Second, in the Cellular Metabolism and Biology Unit of the NIH in Bethesda with a John E. Fogarty scholarship. Since her return to Chile, she has been an academic, first at the Austral University of Chile, and currently at the University of San Sebastian. She has taught cellular biology and biomedicine, guided various undergraduate, master's, and doctoral theses, in addition to leading various scientific projects

Teaching

She is currently a Faculty member at the School of Biochemistry and Director of the Cellular Biology and Biomedicine Program at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of San Sebastian. At the undergraduate level, she teaches Cellular Biology and Formulation of Scientific Projects. She guides students in their thesis stages at the Master's and Doctoral level in the study of the molecular mechanisms of homeostasis and cellular recycling in response to various stress scenarios such as inflammation, hypoxia, and chemotherapeutic drugs
