Role of the microbiota on chronic non-communicable diseases and infections. Our laboratory studies the molecular and physiological mechanisms of microorganisms in the development and course of chronic diseases and infectious diseases. We focus on characterizing the role of the microbiota during the course of diseases. Within this line we work with prebiotics, probiotics, and Metabolists of microbial origin and their influence on the pro-inflammatory state and dysbiosis. Currently, we study the role of the microbiota on chronic kidney disease, the modulating effect of food consumption and molecules of functional interest on the microbiota, and also issues related to breastfeeding, among others. Recently, we have integrated the study of changes in the microbiota and its relationship with COVID-19 pathology. On the other hand, we are interested in physiologically characterizing isolates that have characteristics of biotechnological interest or resistance to metals and antibiotics. The laboratory has an R&D&i area for the search and development of new products of commercial interest.
