Dr. Hurtado-Torres’ research interests focus on the international history of the Americas in the twentieth century, with a special emphasis in the United States, Chile, and the Southern Cone. His books and articles are based on research conducted in archives in various countries.

Dr. Sebastián Hurtado-Torres holds a Ph. D. in history from Ohio University. He has taught as an adjunct professor at various universities in Santiago and as an assistant professor at Universidad Austral de Chile, in Valdivia. Between 2015 and 2018, he served as the coordinator of an advisory committee for the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Relations on the matter of Bolivia’s lawsuit against Chile in the International Court of Justice. Currently, he is the director of the undergraduate history program of the Instituto de Historia of Universidad San Sebastián.

Dr. Hurtado-Torres’ teaching focuses on the political and international history of Chile and Latin America in the twentieth century, both for graduate and undergraduate programs. He also teaches courses on world history, historiography, social sciences, and research methodology, for undergraduate programs in history and other majors.
