Abstract
Despite the urgency of developing critical thinking in a digitally mediated context flooded with fake news, the results of this construct on an international scale are very low. This research seeks to contribute to this area through the design and testing of an app whose objective is to develop critical thinking in first-year university students. This article describes the app’s design and trial process, as well as the results of using said app with a given group of students during one of their first-year university courses. The data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively using corpus analysis software, the language ideation system, and a text evaluation rubric. The results suggest that the app can contribute to the development of critical thinking through the modeling of this ability. We highlight the positive aspects in the production of argumentative texts that can be mediated through the app, along with some suggestions for its improvement
