    Research interests

    Specialist in the History of Latin America and Chile in the 19th century, with emphasis on republican formation in times of independence, the dilemmas of the national construction process during the 19th century and the impact of phenomena such as war on the forging of identities collective and collective memories. On these topics he has written 10 books, published both in Chile and abroad, and more than 50 research articles. He has been the researcher responsible for the projects Fondecyt 11160298, The spectrum of the people: the conceptualization of democracy in Chile, 1841-1887; and Fondecyt 1201399, The imaginary of “American Sparta”: nationalism and collective memory around the Pacific War, 1879-1929

    Gabriel Cid has a degree in History from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and a Doctor in History from the University of the Basque Country, Spain (2015). He is an ANID-Fondecyt Researcher and member of Iberconceptos. Research Network on Comparative History of the Hispanic World. He is part of the faculty of the Master's Degree in History of the Hispanic World: Independence in the Ibero-American world. Universitat Jaume I, Castellón de la Plana (Spain). Before joining the Institute of History of the San Sebastián University in 2020, he worked as an academic at the Diego Portales University and in the Master's Degree in History at the Andrés Bello National University.

    Teaching

    Dr. Gabriel Cid is a specialist in intellectual and political history of the Latin American and Chilean 19th century. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate teaching on his research areas, incorporating into his teaching the latest debates in historiography on the topics he teaches. He has taught History of Chile in the 19th century and Latin American History of the same century in the History Pedagogy program; and Constitutional History of Chile in Law. In the Doctorate in History program he teaches Theory and Method of History and specialization courses, in addition to supervising doctoral projects of new researchers.
