His research focuses on the history of Chile's international relations during the Cold War and the Post-Cold War, and the history of the institutions of the Biobío Region.

He has a Doctor in History from the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). More than 30 years of undergraduate and graduate teaching experience at universities in Chile and abroad. He has participated in several research projects in his disciplinary area at the regional, national (Fondecyt Regular) and international levels. As author or co-author, he has published books and articles on topics of his specialty in national and international journals (ISI, WOS, Scopus, Latindex and Editorial Committee). In the written press he has published opinion columns in regional media and has a presence in other social media (radio, TV), as well as in social media. He has been a guest professor at: Complutense University of Madrid, Institut für Zeitgeschichte, Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, among others.
