Personal profile

Research interests

Her research focuses on the mechanisms of collagens stabilization by secondary metabolisms and bioactive compounds to prevent or treat diseases associated with aging and nutrition. Her ultimate objective is to create innovative products for the biomedical, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries. In addition, work is being done on a project that involves the search for novel molecular markers that will permit the differentiation of various forms of gastric cancer

Personal profile

Carolina Añazco is a biochemist who holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Universidad Austral, Chile. She completed her first postdoc at the Center for Scientific Studies and her second postdoc in the United States at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she specialized in the biochemistry of extracellular matrix proteins, mainly collagens and lysyl oxidases. She is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Nutrition and Dietetics in the Faculty of Health Care Science and the director of the FONDECYT 1212026 project, which is conducted at the Nutritional Biochemistry Laboratory, located in Valdivia, Chile. Her laboratory investigates the mechanisms by which bioactive compounds stabilize collagens for applications in the design of biomaterials and food formulations

Teaching

Due to her specialization and teaching experience in the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology, she participates in the Cell Biology curriculum for first-year students in the careers of Dentistry. In postgraduate programs, she is Professor of the Master´s Program in Molecular Biomedicine and the Doctoral Program in Chronic Diseases
