Research interests

Our laboratory is interested in studying the immune response against infections produced by emerging viruses, the development of diagnostic tools, and the evaluation of vaccines with a translational medicine approach. Specifically, we are focused on: a) Studying the humoral and cellular immune response developed against SARS-CoV-2, and hantavirus in cohorts of patients in acute phase and convalescence. Knowing and understanding what type of immunity people exposed to these viruses develop and correlating this information with clinical characteristics will allow discovering biomarkers associated with COVID-19 and hantavirus disease, respectively. b) Development of human monoclonal antibodies against emerging viruses, such as hantavirus ANDV. This project aims to isolate and produce with recombinant DNA technology 100% human antibodies with the potential to be used as post-exposure therapy, and as prophylaxis and/or therapy in high-risk groups or in cases of hantavirus outbreaks.
