    Research interests

    His areas of research are related to arterial hypertension and chronic kidney diseases. In the importance of dietary sodium and potassium as factors responsible for arterial hypertension, in the mechanisms of progression of chronic kidney diseases, postnatal development of renal function, regeneration and repair of renal damage, and circadian rhythms in renal function. He has more than 100 publications in articles, books and book chapters in these areas. His studies pioneered the localization of renal hormones and their contribution to normal and pathological function, in hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and kidney repair

    Dr. Carlos P. Vio Lagos, has a degree in Medicine from the Universidad Austral de Chile and is a Surgeon from the Universidad de Chile. He did postdoctoral studies in Endocrinology at the New York Medical School, USA with a Fogarty International CTR-NIH fellowship. Dr. Vio is a Full Professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine and Sciences of the Universidad San Sabastian, Santiago, Chile, and Associate Professor of Physiology at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. He is a member of the Chilean Academy of Medicine, Chilean Society of Hypertension, Chilean Society of Physiological Sciences, American Society of Nephrology, American Society of Physiology, Inter-American Society of Hypertension, among others. He was Director of the Department of Physiology and Vice Rector of Research and Doctorate of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (2000-2010). He is currently Vice Rector of Research and Doctoral Programs at Universidad San Sabastian, Chile

    Teaching

    Extensive teaching experience in Physiology and Pathophysiology for medical, nutrition, and health sciences students, and doctoral programs in Physiology, Medical Sciences, and Chronic Diseases. He is the author of books in Physiology, Hypertension, and Chronic Renal Diseases including: "Renal Physiology and Hydrosaline Metabolism", Springer Nature, 2022, "Renal Physiology and Hydrosaline Metabolism", Catholic University Editions, 2018. Author in books on Arterial Hypertension in several publishers
