Research interests

Her research interest focuses on health inequities, social determinants of health, and their role in economic development. She has investigated the challenges that people with disabilities face in accessing health services in the Chilean and international context. She participates as a technical adviser and researcher in the WHO project "European framework for action to achieve the highest attainable standard of health for persons with disabilities 2022-2030”. She is Principal Investigator at the Millennium Nucleus DISCA (Millennium Nucleus Studies on Disability and Citizenship) – NCS2022_039 (2022-2025)

Dr. Elena Rotarou obtained her PhD in economics from Kyoto University, Japan, and did a postdoc at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Chile (Fondecyt Postdoctoral No. 3140481). She is an interdisciplinary researcher in public health, combining health economics, social epidemiology, and economic development. She has published in the area of health inequities and has participated in research projects for national and international organizations. Currently, she works as a researcher at the National Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Science, Santiago campus
