Personal profile

Dr Iarkov Alexandre completed his PhD in Neurophysiology at M. V. Lomonosov State University, Russia, in 1994. Upon graduation, he received a postdoctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Neurochemistry of the Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Biophysics in Pushchino, Russia. In 1998, he received the position of Research Professor in the laboratory of Neuroendocrinology of CUIB, University of Colima, Mexico. From 2001 to 2015, Dr. Iarkov worked in the USA at Sun Health Research Institute (2001-2004), Arizona State University (2004 - 2011), and Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) (2012 - 2014). From 2015 to the present, he has been working as Docente Tecnología Médica, Facultad Ciencias de la Salud, Universidad San Sebastian, Concepcion, Chile.

Teaching

Alexander Iarkov holds an MA and a PhD from Lomonosov State University, Moscow, Russia. He teaches and leads workshops at the Escuela de Tecnología Médica of the University of San Sebastian. The subject and objectives of the seminar are physiology and pathophysiology of the CNS in some neurodegenerative diseases, methods of preclinical studies, and the basic rules for writing proposals for obtaining grants.

Research interests

Dr. Iarkov's scientific interests lie in the study of new therapeutic targets and new compounds for improving memory, preventing PTSD, and certain cognitive impairments due to neurodegenerative disorders (Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases). His scientific interests has been realized in Chile in receiving 2 FONDECYT regular grants, where he has played the role of Co-PI. FONDECYT# 1150194, 03/2015-03/2019 The title of proposal: Investigating Cotinine as a Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and FONDECYT# 1190264, 03/2019-03/2022 The title of proposal: Role of bone-morphometric proteins in the enhancement of fear extinction and astrocyte protection induced by cotinine in fear-conditioned mice.
