Resumen
Background: The ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) construct has recently been updated to ¨Life´s Essential 8¨(LE8). Objective: todetermine LE8´s prevalence in a Latino women cohort and its association with socio-demographic and economic determinants. Methods: Cross-sectional study on 620 women between 35 and 70 years old, representing 1,462,807 women (after expansion factors).LE8 scores from 0 to 100 points and includes diet, physical activity (PA), nicotine exposure, sleep health, body mass index, blood pressure, blood glucose, and lipid levels. PA was measured using GPAQ. Diet was assessed by a food intake questionnaire, and urinary sodiummeasurement. A descriptive analysis using sample weights of the overall sample was used and then stratified by age, education, incomelevel, and civil status. Regression analysis was adjusted by age, income, and education level to determine the association of the socio-demographic and economic determinants with the total CVH score. Results: The overall mean LE8 score was 62.7 (95% CI: 61.3-64.7) points. Only 11.5% had a high CVH (LE8 score ≥80 points), meanwhile18.2% presented a low CVH (score <50). The best-accomplished metrics were blood glucose and PA; the worst were diet and nicotineexposure. Women < 45 years old, with 12 years or more of formal education, earning middle and high home incomes, and those married orcoupled had significantly higher LE8 scores than their counterparts. The adjusted regression analysis showed a significantly higher LE8 inthose < 45 years old (+3 points, p<0.05), those finishing high school (+5 points, p<0.01), and those women reaching tertiary education (+12points, p=0.0001). Home income was not a significant determinant of better LE8 after adjustments. Conclusion: Nearly 1 out of 9 women from an urban Latin-American city had an ideal LE8 CVH score. Years of education are crucialdeterminants in the fight to get an ideal CVH.
