Resumen

This chapter explores the versatile applications of biopolymer chitosan and its derivatives in hemostasis and wound healing. The cationic chitosan, a natural polysaccharide derived from chitin, has gained considerable attention in the biomedical field due to its unique properties, including biocompatibility, biodegradability, and hemostatic efficacy. The discussion encompasses the role of chitosan-based biomaterials in promoting hemostasis, facilitating clot formation, and accelerating the wound-healing process. Furthermore, the chapter delves into the various strategies employed to enhance the chitosan derivatives’ hemostatic and wound-healing properties through chemical modifications and biocomposite formulations. Additionally, it highlights recent advancements and promising prospects in utilizing chitosan-based biomaterials for addressing bleeding disorders and promoting tissue regeneration. Overall, this chapter provides valuable insights into the multifaceted applications of chitosan in hemostasis and wound management, paving the way for innovative therapeutic interventions in the field of regenerative medicine.
