Research interests

In order to carry out their complete infective cycle, viruses tend to generate changes in host cell processes. Therefore, the study of these processes can provide evidence for the development of antiviral strategies. This line of research studies the changes in the cellular processes of Autophagy and the response to stress, during infection by hantavirus (specifically Andes virus) and its role in infection control. To study virus-host interactions, we use different molecular and cellular biology tools, analyzing and manipulating the expression of specific markers during the response to Andes virus infection

Teaching

Amelina Albornoz is a Molecular Biologist from the National University of San Luis, Argentina. He completed his PhD in life sciences at the Molecular Virology Laboratory of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) Trieste, Italy. Currently, Dr. Albornoz is a professor in the Microbiology and Molecular Virology course of the USS Biochemistry major. Participates as an Associate Professor in the USS Microbiology and Immunology PhD program. In addition, she organizes the elective course of Molecular Virology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Chile. Her main line of work is the study of cellular responses to virus infection. In this sense, the different steps in the viral cycle such as replication and production of viral proteins can alter the cellular response, causing changes in the cell. The knowledge obtained from these studies is embodied in the courses where she participates

Amelina Albornoz obtained her PhD in Life Sciences from the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) Trieste, Italy. Once the doctorate was finished, she was awarded a Postdoctoral Fondecyt, which was developed at Fundación Ciencia & Vida, Chile. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Science of the San Sebastián University (USS) and the Ciencia & Vida Foundation Center. Participates as a professor in the Microbiology and Molecular Virology course of the USS Biochemistry major
