Abstract

The objective of this review is to present current recommendations on the use of controlled resting heart rate variability in monitoring sports training.A search was carried out in the literature of works related to training monitoring and heart rate variability recorded at rest, in subjects of different levels, ages and sports. In addition, the protocol and results generated by training guided by heart rate variability were reviewed. The main findings were that the metric of choice of heart rate variability to use in training monitoring is obtained through the square root of the mean value of the sum of the squared differences of all successive RR intervals and its interpretation. it should be complemented with resting heart rate, well-being parameters, fatigue and external load.It is concluded that good quality short records of heart rate variability can be obtained through mobile devices, which can be used in the monitoring of sports training to know the level of psychophysiological preparation of the athlete to perform in the face of a stressful stimulus.
