Abstract

We analyze the existing conflict between farmers and drinking water companies around the property of treated wastewater that is evacuated to the Mapocho river, product of the supply and sanitation of the city of Santiago, and that is used by the irrigators that are located downstream of the discharge points of the treatment plants. The conflict warned here now has a new element: a regulatory framework that, from the year 2022, establishes a priority in the use of water for human consumption and sanitation, distorting the equitable redistribution of water resources in times of drought.
