Abstract

The objective of the article is to evaluate the intercultural communicative competence of students from a primary school of the Region of the Lakes, Chile, and examine the incidence of indigenous language and culture training. The methodology is quantitative and the 96 students who participated in the study answered the Test of intercultural communicative competence. Significant differences were found in favor of the students who had been trained in indigenous language and culture in the intercultural communicative competence compared to those who had not been trained in those contents. However, the competence does not reach a satisfactory level, challenging the quality and pertinence of intercultural school training.
