She has developed research on the factors associated with the processes of maintenance and loss of functionality in the elderly, as well as health trajectories and healthy life expectancy among the Chilean older population. She is currently conducting research on the distribution and trajectories of mental health problems in the population, evaluation of programs and interventions related to mental health and access to mental health care in primary care among the elderly. Along with quantitative research, she is interested in qualitative and mixed methods research to address sociocultural elements related to mental health

She is a psychologist, MSc and PhD in public health. Her research has focused on the analysis of health and mental health situation and trajectories of older adults in Chile. She has also studied sociocultural aspects related to health and aging, such as social representations or perceptions of health service users, through mixed methods. She is the main author of several publications in international journals of the first two quartiles. She is currently developing a project (Fondecyt de iniciación) entitled "Facilitators and barriers for the diagnosis and treatment of depression in older men and women enrolled in Primary Care Centers in Santiago: a mixed methods study"

She teaches research related subjects to psychology students, including research methodology, quantitative analysis and research project. Likewise, she teaches research subjects to medicine students and in the PhD of Chronic Diseases. She is motivated to get students interested in research and to provide them with the basis to enter this field. She has supervised scientific dissemination activities of student groups, such as publication of scientific articles and presentations at national and international congresses
