Dr. Cavieres is interested in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying breast cancer progression and therapy resistance. My work focuses on the role of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), the Golgi apparatus, and intracellular trafficking in tumor cell plasticity, stress responses, and cell survival. In particular, I study how ER quality control pathways, protein glycosylation, and organelle communication contribute to tumor adaptation and treatment response.

Viviana Cavieres is a biochemist and Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Universidad Austral de Chile. Her research focuses on the cellular mechanisms underlying breast cancer progression and therapy resistance, with emphasis on the endoplasmic reticulum, intracellular trafficking, and protein glycosylation. She has completed research stays at the Institut Curie (France) and the NIH (USA). Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at Universidad San Sebastián and was recently awarded a FONDECYT Initiation Grant as principal investigator to further explore the molecular mechanisms of tumor adaptation and plasticity.

Dr. Viviana Cavieres is an active faculty member at Universidad San Sebastián, where she teaches Biochemistry and Cell Biology. She contributes to the design and supervision of laboratory sessions, guiding students through fundamental and advanced techniques in cell and molecular biology.
