    Personal profile

    Research interests

His lines of research are focused on the basic-clinical study of the cardio-metabolic effects, both acute and chronic, of different physical exercise programs in conditions of obesity and insulin resistance. Additionally, he focuses on the metabolic effects of exercise in conditions of physical inactivity.

    Personal profile

Dr. Martínez Huenchullán is a physical therapist and completed his Master's degree in Physical Therapy at the Universidad Católica del Maule (Talca, Chile) and his PhD in the Department of Endocrinology at the University of Sydney, Australia. Before joining Universidad San Sebastián, he served as Assistant Professor at the Universidad Austral de Chile for 14 years, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and conducting basic-clinical research in the field of the metabolic effects of exercise in the context of obesity and insulin resistance. He is currently a Researcher at the Physical Therapy Program, at Valdivia campus.

    Teaching

Dr. Martínez-Huenchullán teaches in the areas of physiology and clinical physiology of exercise, with an emphasis on the cardio-metabolic alterations associated with obesity and insulin resistance, and how these alterations require the generation of adaptations when prescribing exercise, in order to generate optimal therapeutic effects. To this end, the lines of research led by Dr. Martínez-Huenchullán are focused on understanding the mechanisms by which exercise generates metabolic benefits in conditions of dysfunction and which are the most appropriate exercise modalities for each user depending on their cardio-metabolic needs.
