Dr. Alarcón is currently teaching at the Faculty of Medicine and Science, where he teaches Biochemistry for the Medicine, Medical Technology, Dentistry, Nursing, and other majors. He also participates as a tutor in research seminars for the Medical Technology major. Currently, Dr. Alarcón is part of the faculty of the Master's in Molecular Biomedicine at the Universidad San Sebastián.

    Research interests

His line of research is focused on studying cellular mechanisms that modulate the extracellular metabolism of the nucleoside adenosine and the effects of this on the generation of aberrant lymphatic vessels, a phenomenon that is related to the processes triggered during metastasis in various types of cancer. She also has lines of research aimed at developing biotechnological tools for human health.

    Personal profile

Dr. Sebastián Alarcón graduated in Biochemistry from the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh), and later obtained a PhD in Sciences, with a major in Cellular and Molecular Biology (UACh), completing an internship at Vanderbilt University, USA. During his PhD, Dr. Alarcón studied mechanisms that modulate the expression and activity of nucleoside transporters. Later, he completed a post-doctorate in the Tumor Biology Laboratory at UACh where he characterized the extracellular metabolism of adenosine in Glioblastoma Stem-like Cells. Today, he works as a Research Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Sciences at the School of Medicine of the Universidad San Sebastián.
