Research interests

Dr. Vergara has 3 active lines of research: Early detection and management of dementia, where early markers for the diagnosis and screening of cognitive impairment are explored. Meditation and well-being, where potential mechanisms are explored by which meditation interventions would generate the reported benefits. Biological bases of behavior, where potential naturalistic mechanisms through which behavior would emerge from neuronal activity are developed based on theory and in silico simulations.

Personal profile

Dr. Vergara is a biologist and doctor in Psychology. He completed his postdoctoral degree at the University of Chile in cognitive neurosciences. He continued his career as Scientific Innovation Supervisor of the Innovation Area of ​​the Institute of Biomedical Neuroscience, and then took the position of full professor at the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences. During this period he was Director of the Human Wellbeing and Development Center of the Education Research Center, in addition to participating in the Doctorate in Education and the Master in Sciences applied to Movement and Human Cognition. He is currently a researcher at the San Sebastián University

Teaching

Dr. Vergara teaches in areas linked to research methodology and biological foundations of behavior. Within his area of ​​expertise is statistical analysis, the application of machine learning in research contexts in psychology and neuroscience, development and validation of psychometric evaluation tests, development of psychophysiological measurement systems, as well as its application in cognitive paradigms.
