Dr. Maldonado is a Biochemist from the Universidad Austral de Chile. He has a double doctorate awarded by the Universidad Austral de Chile and the University of Resgensburg, Germany, during which he carried out international internships in France, Germany and Spain. He completed two postdocs, the first at the University of Resgensburg, and the second in combination with the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany. Upon returning to Chile, he worked as a teacher and researcher at the Universidad Mayor and the Universidad Austral de Chile, before joining the Faculty of Medicine and Sciences at the Universidad San Sebastián.

Dr. Maldonado teaching is related to biochemistry and molecular biology focused on careers of the health and science areas. He is a collaborating professor of the Doctoral Program in Cellular Biology and Biomedicine at the Universidad San Sebastián.

His research line currently focuses on studying the mechanisms of gene expression regulation through the functional interaction between non-coding RNAs and chromatin. These studies are carried out in different cellular models related to cancer, using molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology methods associated with massive RNA and DNA sequencing.
