His research covers various topics in theoretical physics, mainly focused on high energy physics, gravitation, and integrable systems. The deep interconnection between these topics has been manifested through the study of the asymptotic structure of space-time including black holes and other configurations, and dual theories in various dimensions.

He has a Bachelor of Science, Major in Physics, and a Doctor of Science, Major in Physics, from the University of Chile. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Université Libre de Bruxelles, Physique Théorique et Mathématique, Belgium (October 1999 – December 1999); Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Santiago de Chile (September 1996 – September 1999); Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Scientific Studies (January 2000-May 2000);  Assistant Professor at the Center for Scientific Studies (June 2000 – August 2004); Senior Researcher at the Center for Scientific Studies (since September 2004), and currently Full Professor at the San Sebastián University, Valdivia headquarters, since March 2022. He has been a sponsor of more than a dozen postdoctoral researchers since 2002, supervisor of 7 PhD thesis, author of 86 WoS publications, and director of research projects of different sizes.
