    Research interests

    Dr. Ormazábal is interested in studying the effect of bioactive compounds from foods and medicinal plants against alterations associated with obesity. Among his lines of research, the study of the role of a Lampaya medicinalis extract in inflammation, insulin resistance, steatosis, fibrosis and platelet aggregation in in vitro, in vivo and/or ex vivo models stands out. It also studies the effect of an oregano essential oil on the alteration in insulin signaling in human adipocytes, as well as the role of a matico extract on mechanisms associated with cellular senescence in macrophages from elderly people.

    Biochemistry from the University of Santiago de Chile, Doctor in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Chile. Postdoctoral degree at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Rome, Italy. Dr. Paulina Ormazabal has extensive academic experience in Higher Education institutions, both state and private, in the areas of Medicine and Health Sciences. Member of National (Sochinut, Soched) and International (ENDO, ESE, YARE) Scientific Societies and Research Centers (ACCDiS, CIES). Member of the Board of Directors and the Academic Committee of the Chilean Society of Endocrinology and Diabetes (Soched). Representative of the Fundamental Sciences Group of Soched

    Teaching

    Teacher for Health Careers (Cell Biology course) and thesis tutor for students of the Obstetrics Career of the Faculty of Health Care Sciences of the USS. Dr. Ormazabal's interest in studying cellular and molecular mechanisms of pathological conditions associated with obesity and aging provides a biomedical approach to her undergraduate teaching in Basic Sciences. Her experience directing undergraduate and postgraduate theses, in addition to her interest in endocrine-metabolic pathologies in women, constitutes a contribution to the thesis guide for Obstetrics students.
