    Research interests

The research interests of Prof. Dr. Patricia Pérez López are focused on the understanding of reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry by means of theoretical models and advanced computational chemistry tools. Her main line of research deals with chemical reactivity from density functional theory (DFT) and topological analysis of functions such as the electronic localization function (ELF), applied to cycloaddition processes, nucleophilic substitution and catalyzed reactions. He has developed quantitative descriptors of electrophilicity and nucleophilicity and has recently explored the Bonding Evolution Theory (BET) to study the evolution of electron density in chemical bond breaking and formation. His research seeks to generate predictive tools with impact in basic and applied science. These lines are complemented with research oriented to the rational design of reactions and the prediction of chemical behavior in complex systems.

    Personal profile

Prof. Dr. Patricia Pérez López is a renowned Chilean scientist specialized in theoretical and computational chemistry, with more than two decades of experience in research, teaching and training of advanced human capital. With a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Chile and a postdoctoral stay at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, she has focused her career on the study of chemical reactivity using tools derived from density functional theory (DFT) and topological analysis. Her work has contributed significantly to the understanding of organic reaction mechanisms, particularly in cycloaddition processes, establishing widely used predictive models. Professor and former director of the PhD in Molecular Physicochemistry at the Universidad Andrés Bello, she was also director of the Department of Chemical Sciences and of the Chemistry Degree Program at the same institution. She has led numerous Fondecyt projects and Millennium Nuclei, and has been internationally recognized, being among the most cited scientists in Chile according to the rankings of Research.com and Stanford-Elsevier. In addition, she has been a member of the Chemistry Study Group of Fondecyt, evaluator of the CNA Accreditation Committee, evaluator of National Fellowships and Chilean PhD Fellowships (national and foreign), and scientific reviewer in international mainstream journals.
