    Research interests

We study the transport of mono- and tri-carboxylates across various biological membranes. We combine modern genetics with metabolic sensors to identify and characterize the factors involved in the transport, mainly of citrate and lactate.

    Personal profile

Pamela Y. Sandoval is a Biochemist from the Universidad Austral de Chile and obtained her Ph.D. in Genetics from Texas A&M University, USA. During his doctoral studies he worked alongside Geoffrey Kapler in the characterization of a particular response to DNA damage during the synthesis phase of the cell cycle in Tetrahymena. During his post-doctoral research he joined Mariusz Nowacki's laboratory at the University of Bern, Switzerland. There he studied and characterized new factors (proteins and small non-coding RNAs) that participate in genome editing in eukaryotes. Since 2016, Pamela has been a researcher at the Center for Scientific Studies in Valdivia where she collaborates with the cellular metabolism group. She is currently a USS Researcher with particular interest in the transport of metabolites across biological membranes.
