Personal profile

Personal profile

During her PhD, Dr. Armijo investigated the mechanisms involved in axonal branching during the development of the nervous system. Subsequently, she completed her postdoctoral research, funded by Fondecyt, at the University of Concepción. There, she studied how alterations in the expression and function of the glycine receptor in an early model of Alzheimer's disease impact neuronal activity and behavioral changes related to motivation. This research is highly relevant, as the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease is increasing both globally and in our country.

Teaching

During her postdoctoral tenure, Dr. Armijo actively engaged in academic mentorship and teaching responsibilities. She made significant contributions by instructing the Experimental Design course within the Mental Health graduate program and teaching Laboratory Techniques in an undergraduate course at the Universidad de Concepción. Currently, at the Universidad San Sebastián (USS), she teaches Physiology and Molecular Diagnosis laboratories. Recently, she was invited to participate in the new PhD program in Rehabilitation Science and to teach in the implantology graduate program.

Research interests

Currently, her research is focused on understanding the neurobiological mechanisms involved in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, in order to promote prevention of this condition
