    Research interests

    Her research interests focus on marine ecology, anthropogenic pollution, and the conservation of marine ecosystems. Currently, her work centers on plastic and plasticizer pollution, as well as their bioaccumulation and biomagnification in marine food webs, with a particular focus on the Chilean Patagonian Sea. In parallel, she collaborates on studies related to harmful algal blooms. She also leads citizen science and science communication initiatives, promoting active public engagement in ocean conservation and open access to scientific knowledge.

    Personal profile

    Marine biologist and PhD in Biological Sciences from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, University of Tasmania (2017). She holds a Master’s in Antarctic Science (2012) and a Bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Barcelona (2009). In 2019, she was awarded the Fondecyt Postdoctoral Project #3200483, focused on microplastics and associated toxins in the Chilean Patagonian Sea. Currently, she leads the Fondecyt Initiation Project #11241143, which investigates the bioaccumulation and biomagnification of plasticizers in marine food webs. She is an Assistant Professor and Researcher at the Faculty of Sciences, Patagonia campus, San Sebastian Univeristy, in Puerto Montt.

    Teaching

    She currently teaches in the career of Engineering in Expeditions and Ecotourism Management in the subjects of Project Formulation and Evaluation and also in Aquatic Ecosystems. She also supervises Degree Projects in the same career which allows her to link his research with teaching activities.
