Research interests

Her research focuses on the consequences of interactions between wildlife, domestic fauna, and the human population. In particular, he is interested in investigating the effect that anthropogenic modifications of the environment have on the ecology of infectious diseases, the conservation of wild species, and the use of natural resources. Based on this interest, she has focused on the study of some relevant zoonotic diseases in Chile, which integrate domestic and wild animals into their epidemiological cycles (Chagas disease, Leptospirosis).

Juana P. Correa is Doctor in Veterinary Medicine and Doctor in Forestry, Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences from the Universidad de Chile. She has carried out postdoctoral research at the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad de Chile, where she later continued collaborating as research associate and invited lecturer. He has also taught at other universities in the area of zoology, ecology and zoonoses. Since 2020, she is researcher at the Universidad San Sebastián, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Veterinary Medicine career, Chile. In this institution, she develops research and teaching in the area of ecology and conservation of wildlife and zoonoses.

Teaching

At Universidad San Sebastián Juana P. Correa currently teaches in the veterinary medicine career, in the courses of zoology, ecology, wildlife conservation, methodology of scientific research, and management and research of wildlife. In the past, she has participated in courses on zoonoses, spatial ecology, ecoepidemiology and ecology of infectious diseases, at Universidad de Chile, Universidad de las Americas and Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (Brazil).
