Jose Barrales-Ruiz holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Utah, as well as a Master's degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Economics from the Universidad de Concepción. Currently, he serves as an Economics Researcher at the Universidad San Sebastian in Concepción, Chile. His primary areas of interest include the study of the labor share of income, nonlinear time series econometrics, and machine learning methods. His research findings have been published in journals such as the Review of Keynesian Economics, Metroeconomica, Structural Change and Economics Dynamics, and Resources Policy

His current research interests are related to the interplay between applied macroeconomics, energy economics and time series econometrics.
