    Born in Mexico, Javier Echeñique studied Philosophy in Chile and quickly specialized in Greek Philosophy, an area in which he completed his M.Phil at King's College, and then a Ph.D in Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews, United Kingdom , under the direction of Sarah Broadie, earning a doctorate in 2009 with a thesis on the Aristotelian theory of voluntariness and involuntariness - later published in book form by Cambridge University Press. At that time Javier received the President of the Republic Scholarship, and has since been awarded several research scholarships: Fondecyt Postdoctoral, Initiation, and Regular.

    Teaching

    Javier Echeñique specializes in Greek Philosophy, but always with a focus on issues related to Practical Philosophy, particularly Ethics, Moral Responsibility and Free Will. In these areas, Javier Echeñique also has extensive teaching experience, having taken numerous undergraduate Ethics courses, where he shows his passion for classical theories and Virtue Ethics, and several postgraduate seminars. He is currently teaching seminars in some of these areas for the new Doctorate in Philosophy.

    La principal línea de investigación de Javier Echeñique es la Filosofía Clásica greco-romana, con un foco particular en la Ética, y en el desarrollo del problema del libre albedrío. Además de numerosos artículos en revistas especializadas de Estados Unidos y Europa, en esta área ha publicado Aristóteles Ethics and Moral Responsibility (Cambridge University Press, 2012), una traducción anotada del Gorgias de Platón (Editorial Universitaria, 2015) y otra de los textos que sobreviven del sofista Gorgias de Leontini (Tácitas, en prensa). Una segunda línea de investigación de Javier es la Ética (particularmente la Metaética).
