    Research interests

    Chronic non-communicable diseases have been the general topic in which Dr. Carrasco has worked as a researcher, with special focus on fetal programming and pregnancy pathologies. Dr. Carrasco's current research project studies the maintenance, during pregnancy, of the systemic inflammatory state of pregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsia. Project that will end in 2024. Additionally, Dr. Carrasco is interested in evaluating in the future the participation of epigenetic mechanisms in the increase in cardiovascular risk derived from mothers who had pathologies or physiological stress during pregnancy.

    Personal profile

    Dr. Carrasco obtained his Doctorate degree in Biological Sciences, mentioning Cellular and Molecular Biology, at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Additionally obtaining the double degree of Doctor of Natural Sciences at the University of Regensburg, Germany. Later, Dr. Carrasco completed a postdoctoral degree in the Morphological Sciences Laboratory of the School of Medicine of the University of Valparaíso. Currently, Dr. Carrasco is a researcher at the Faculty of Medicine and Sciences, USS, Los Leones headquarters, where he is developing a grant project for Insertion in the Academy, financed by ANID.

    Teaching

    Dr. Carrasco teaches the Basic Immunology subjects and participates in the laboratories of the Molecular Diagnostics 2 subject, both of the Medical Technology degree. Dr. Carrasco's current project addresses topics in immunology, applying his research experience to the classroom. Additionally, Dr. Carrasco has experience in molecular biology techniques applied to clinical diagnosis, so his participation in the Molecular Diagnosis 2 course is pertinent. In addition, Dr. Carrasco guides undergraduate theses, such as Research Units and Seminars , always in the Faculty of Medicine and Science.
