Doctor Iván Navas is an Associate Professor of Criminal Law at the San Sebastián University. A lawyer by profession, he completed his postgraduate studies in Spain and Germany. He holds a Doctor of Law from the Pompeu Fabra University, Spain, where he obtained the highest qualification summa cum laude unanimously. He also holds a Master's degree in Legal Sciences and a Master's degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences in a double degree with the Universities of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra. He has been a visiting researcher at the Universities of Bonn in Germany, as well as at the University of A Coruña and the Autonomous University of Madrid in Spain. He completed postdoctoral studies at the Institut für Kriminologie und Wirtschaftsstrafrecht of the University of Freiburg in Germany. Before joining the San Sebastián University, he was a professor of criminal law and economic criminal law for approximately five years at the Pompeu Fabra University in Spain. He is the author of important publications in the area of ​​criminal law and economic criminal law both in Chile and abroad.

Dr. Navas teaches the subjects of general criminal law, special criminal law and economic criminal law and compliance among other courses in the Law degree at the San Sebastián University. His research has a direct impact on his classes, since his work is directly related to the subjects that are part of the programs of the chairs he teaches. Thus, his publications such as his Lessons on Chilean Criminal Law stand out. General part, which has a second edition, published at the beginning of 2022 and which represents the main bibliography of the chair he teaches and is also a source of consultation in various universities in the country. Other notable works by Dr. Navas are Punishable Insolvencies. Fundamentals and limits (Marcial Pons), Negative and positive duties in criminal law as well as the monograph Criminal compliance in comparative law (both published in Tirant lo Blanch). His publications in indexed journals on economic criminal law are also a mandatory source of consultation in undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as the Master of Economic Criminal Law that he directs at the San Sebastián University.
