Research interests

He graduated in Chemistry from the University of Havana, Cuba (2003) and worked as a Researcher at the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences. Subsequently, he completed the Master's Degree in Physics and Chemistry of Polymers at the same institution (2008). He completed a Doctorate in Sciences with a mention in Chemistry at the University of Concepción (2003). Researches in the following topics: biotechnology, biopolymers, natural products and product development for food, pharmacy and agriculture. He has extensive experience in R&D management, participating in projects financed by different national and international agencies (FONDECYT, INNOVA, FONDEF, ANID, CYTED, IBEROEKA). He has been a Professor and researcher at several Universities (UdeC, UCT, UDD, UAI, UCSC) and R&D Institutes (UDT, CIDI). He developed several agrochemical products available on the market. He participated in more than 60 international scientific meetings, co-author of 72 ISI articles, 7 SciELO articles, and 6 book chapters, co-author of 7 patents granted in the US and other countries. He has supervised 21 bachelor's and 2 doctoral theses.

He is a professor of the subject of Research Methodology for Nutrition and Dietetics students, which is pertinent and relevant because an applied perspective can be provided, due to his long experience in research. In addition, he teaches laboratories on the subject of Food Safety, where this topic is related to his research topics and professional experience in the food area.

Teaching

1. Extraction and characterization of polyphenols with antioxidant and antimicrobial biological activity. 2. Extraction, characterization and functionalization of polysaccharides from different sources and preparation of functional nano/microfibers. 3. Preparation of composite materials based on polyphenols and polysaccharides with applications in food, packaging, nutraceuticals and pharmacy.
