Personal profile

Personal profile

He has worked in the planning and management of sustainable tourism from national public institutions and international organizations, such as SERNATUR, INDAP, SERCOTEC, municipalities, the World Wildlife Fund, and the CODESPA Foundation. He has conducted short postdoctoral research stays at the University of Grenoble Alpes, France, and at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, Mexico. He developed postgraduate teaching at the Central University of Ecuador and research at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. He was a beneficiary of Becas Chile and joined the academy through the award of an ANID advanced human capital insertion program.

Teaching

He is a teacher responsible for the "Sustainable management of tourist destinations", "Program design for the ecotourism experience" and tutors for degree reports. From the investigation of the tourist space as a social construction, it is possible to understand the tourist destination in terms of the power relations between different actors, which translates into governance of various characteristics and planning with different orientations. In turn, research on the social representations of tourists about the wild and pristine nature allows for the identification and analysis of natural sites in ecotourism programs.

Research interests

From humanistic geography and critical geographies, it seeks to understand the relationship between large energy projects and nature-based tourism. To this end, he investigates the social representations of wilderness areas, the impacts of renewable energy infrastructure on nature-based tourism, and the role of tourism in socio-environmental conflicts. It mainly uses qualitative methodologies through discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis. Currently, he is working on proposing sustainability criteria for integrated planning between nature-based tourism and renewable energy projects through the study of an international case (Iceland).
