Dr. Villena focuses his research on the application of natural language processing and artificial intelligence to clinical text analysis, with a special interest in automatic information extraction in healthcare settings. He has worked on the construction of clinical text resources in Spanish, the development of models for retrieving relevant clinical information, and the normalization of clinical data. He is currently studying the performance of linguistic models in environments with low data availability, seeking to improve the performance of artificial intelligence models in healthcare and optimize medical decision support tools.

Dr. Fabián Villena holds a degree in Dentistry from the Diego Portales University and a Master's degree in Medical Informatics from the University of Chile. He is currently a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Chile, where he researches natural language processing models for clinical decision support, under the supervision of Dr. Felipe Bravo.

Dr. Villena is a Professor-Researcher and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry at the Universidad San Sebastián. He teaches the Digital Health course for various programs at the university, contributing to the training of professionals in the use of technologies in the healthcare field. He also has extensive experience in graduate teaching in the areas of Medical Informatics, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence, participating in the training of engineers and healthcare professionals in state-of-the-art topics.
