    Research interests

    Currently, his research focuses on the physiological and endocrine mechanisms in mothers during gestation, as well as the role of the placenta in women's health after pregnancy. His studies are framed within the DOHaD theory (Developmental Origins of Health and Disease), which suggests that environmental factors during gestation and infancy can have long-term consequences on the health of the offspring.

    Esteban Salazar is a biochemist trained at the Universidad Austral de Chile, where he also obtained his PhD in Sciences with a specialization in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He completed an international internship in Bristol, United Kingdom, and holds a postdoctoral training in the Department of Physiology, Development, and Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge. Upon returning to Chile, he worked as a lecturer at Universidad Santo Tomás before joining the Faculty of Health Sciences at Universidad San Sebastián.

    Teaching

    Currently, Esteban works as a faculty researcher in the School of Midwifery, where he teaches courses in Histoembryology and Embryology and Genetics in the Department of Basic Sciences. Thanks to his knowledge of the scientific method in the area of pregnancy physiology, he is also responsible for the courses Introduction to Biomedicine, Scientific Research, and Research Seminar in the School of Midwifery.
