Personal profile

Research interests

Her research focuses on the interaction between the neuron and astrocyte, at metabolic and proteomic levels, in brain function and disease. She integrates multi-omics analyses with cellular approaches to identify hub genes in the neuron-astrocyte metabolic network. Dr. Lee-Liu is interested in the mechanisms of metabolic reprogramming in the astrocyte and how this affects neuronal function in neurodevelopmental disorders

Personal profile

Dr Dasfne Lee-Liu obtained her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at the P. Universidad Católica de Chile (Santiago, Chile). After her degree, she started her position as a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Geroscience, Mental Health and Metabolism (GERO) at the University of Chile, where her research focused on neuron-astrocyte interaction during brain aging. She is a 2014 For Women in Science laureate (awarded by L’Oréal-Chile UNESCO) and received the Best Doctoral Thesis in Natural Sciences 2018 award from the Chilean Academy of Sciences. Dr Lee-Liu is currently a professor and researcher at the Faculty of Medicine and Science.

Teaching

Dr Dasfne Lee-Liu teaches Cell Biology at the Faculty of Medicine and Science. She also specializes in Molecular Biology, in particular, in omics analyses (transcriptomics, proteomics, etc.). The ever-growing availability of omics databases for diverse biological contexts is a valuable resource for identifying novel molecular mechanisms in health and disease. She underscores the relevance of the integration of omics databases with the development of novel approaches for the unbiased selection of relevant genes and pathways.
