    Personal profile

    Research interests

His research focuses on the metagenome and microbiota characterization of organism relevant to aquaculture and water resources in the Los Lagos region. He also creates molecular biology tools for identifying and diagnosing infections of interest to veterinarians. His most recent project was on creating a sanitary diagnostic tool for urban wetlands and lakes based on their microbial makeup

    Personal profile

Engineer in Molecular Biotechnology, Master in Biological Sciences, and PhD in Biotechnology, all from the University of Chile and Valencia University, respectively. Using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism, he studied and put forth new mechanisms for controlling gene expression in eukaryotes during his doctoral training. Meanwhile, during his postdoctoral stage at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, he used massive DNA sequencing techniques to study the human intestinal microbiota. In order to create tools that allow the monitoring and restoration of the sanitary condition of these environments, his research aims to characterize the microorganisms that live in the water ecosystems of the Chilean Patagonia and to elucidate what they can do functionally

    Teaching

He is a professor of research methodology and statistical analysis at the Patagonia campus of the Universidad San Sebastián in Puerto Montt, Chile. In addition, he works with others on projects related to microbiology and is a researcher academic affiliated with the school of veterinary medicine as well as a member of the university's scientific ethics committee
