Personal profile
Dr. Claudette Cantin González is a Biochemist (2017) and a Doctor (PhD) in Medical Sciences (2022) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. At the end of her PhD, in 2022 she was awarded a Postdoctoral fellowship from the Vicerrectoría de Investigación y Doctorados (VRID) of the Universidad San Sebastián. After this, she was awarded a Fondecyt de Postdoctorado (2024-2026). Currently, she is a Teacher-Researcher and Assistant Professor at the Facultad de Odontología y Ciencias de la Rehabilitación de la USS, at the Patagonia Campus.
Teaching
Dr. Cantin participates as a teacher of the Cellular Biology and Biochemistry courses of the Department of Basic Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine and Science at Universidad San Sebastián, contributing to the initial training of undergraduate students of Dentistry and other health careers. She also worked as a professor of Physiology at other institutions such as the Universidad de los Andes and the Universidad Finis Terrae. Along with her research work, Dr. Cantin seeks to encourage critical thinking and the search for truth in her students, promoting their interest in research.
Research interests
Her line of research focuses on the effects of maternal hypercholesterolemia during pregnancy on the physiology and function of maternal lipoproteins and placental extracellular vesicles, as factors that contribute to fetoplacental and maternal endothelial dysfunction. In addition, her recent Postdoctoral project focuses on the screening and validation of biomarkers of maternal hypercholesterolemia, such as markers of vascular dysfunction or long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), that will allow to predict this condition in early stages of pregnancy. Dr. Cantin has 12 indexed publications and collaborates with researchers from the USS and the Universidad de los Andes.
