Research interests

Dr. Angel has participated in research on adults and older people, focusing on nutrition, health, and healthy aging. In recent years, these studies have centered on sarcopenia and cognitive decline in older people, with an emphasis on the genetic determinants of micronutrient intake, such as vitamin B12 and vitamin D. She also studies the socio-health profile and dietary patterns of Chileans older people in relation to their territorial origin, integrating an interdisciplinary approach into her research.

Midwife from the University of Santiago, Master of Science in Biology with a specialization in Reproductive Biology, and PhD in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Chile (santiago-Chile). Dr. Bárbara Angel completed a postdoctoral fellowship funded by ANID at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology Dr. Fernando Monckeberg Barros (INTA) at the University of Chile from 2009 to 2012. Subsequently, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Public Nutrition Unit at INTA, University of Chile. Currently, she works as a Teaching-Researcher at the Los Leones campus of the Obstetrics Program at Universidad San Sebastián.

Teaching

Dr. Angel is a lecturer and thesis advisor in the Obstetrics Program at the Facultad de Ciencias para el Cuidado de la Salud at USS. Her interest in the epidemiological, genetic, and pathophysiological aspects of major nutrition-related diseases that affect the health of adults and older people, such as micronutrient deficiency, obesity, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, and dyslipidemia, provides a biomedical approach to her undergraduate teaching. Her experience in supervising postgraduate theses, along with her interest in endocrine-metabolic diseases in women, constitutes a valuable contribution to the guidance of theses.
