    Personal profile

Andrea Ortiz Orrego is a Pharmaceutical Chemist and holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, both degrees obtained from the University of Chile. Since 2017, she has been engaged in teaching activities related to the field of Pharmaceutical Technology at various universities. Additionally, she has served as a lecturer in the "Oncology Pharmacy" diploma program at the University of San Sebastián. Furthermore, she participated in the formation and development of the community engagement project "Building Cardiovascular Health with the Elderly" within the "Center of New Drugs for Hypertension (CENDHY)" project.

    Teaching

Currently, she teaches in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry program, specifically in the subjects of Pharmaceutical Technology and Cosmetic Technology. These courses enable students to learn how to formulate a medication that meets quality criteria and is suitable for pharmacological therapy. Additionally, she teaches a course on Bioequivalence, where students learn about national regulations and the theoretical-practical foundations for designating a medication as bioequivalent. On the other hand, she participates in the "Oncology Pharmacy" diploma program offered by the University of San Sebastián.

    Research interests

Her research interests are focused on the design and manufacturing of lipid-based nanosystems to treat gastric pathologies, with a special emphasis on infections. She conducted her doctoral research on gastroretentive lipid nanosystems to treat infections caused by Helicobacter pylori. The results obtained have allowed progress in demonstrating the efficacy of the nanosystem and in scaling up the nanoformulation. Currently, she is researching modified lipid nanosystems with antimicrobial peptides to recognize and inhibit the growth of Helicobacter pylori.
