Álvaro Jiménez-Molina earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the Universidad de Chile and completed his Ph.D. in Sociology at the Université Paris Cité. He is currently affiliated with the Millennium Nucleus for Improving the Mental Health of Adolescents and Youth (Imhay) and the Millennium Institute for Research in Depression and Personality (MIDAP). Prior to joining Universidad San Sebastián, he served as a researcher at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de Chile and as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Psychology of the Universidad Diego Portales.
Teaching
Álvaro Jiménez-Molina teaches at the Faculty of Psychology and Humanities at the Universidad San Sebastián, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His courses cover topics such as mental health policies in Chile, social determinants of mental health, qualitative methodologies in social research, and epistemological and sociocultural foundations of psychology and psychiatry.
Research interests
His research agenda lies at the intersection of clinical psychology and the sociology of mental health and illness, with a particular focus on sociocultural and economic dimensions related to mental disorders, depression and self-harm, and the prevention of suicide-related behaviors. Currently, he leads a research network in digital mental health and a research project on suicide postvention funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID – Chile).
