Organization profile

The Faculty of Health Care Sciences includes the careers of Nursing, Obstetrics and Midwifery, Nutrition and Dietetics and an area of development of academic activities around Health and Physical Activity.  Each of these units is committed to the comprehensive academic training of our undergraduate and graduate students, through the promotion of care and attention to people throughout their lives, with emphasis on education, prevention, promotion, and innovation in health and contributing to the development of public health policies.

The Faculty promotes the development of basic and applied research, bearing in mind the current globalization in the creation of knowledge, with emphasis on interdisciplinary work and linking with the environment and with national and international institutions, for the formation of research nuclei, which allow understanding the epidemiological impact of the demographic changes observed in our country and in the world, which contribute to the understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms of chronic diseases, and contribute to the development of innovative proposals for the resolution of priority health problems.

Objectives and/or purpose: 

  • To generate knowledge relevant to health care, strengthening existing lines of research and creating new ones.
  • To prioritize the internationalization of research, with local, national and global impact.
  • To promote interdisciplinary research.
  • To contribute, with research, to undergraduate and graduate training processes, in order to generate innovative professionals with a critical spirit. 

Lines of research:

  • Healthy aging and the factors that promote it.
  • Risk factors that promote chronic non-communicable diseases.
  • Aging and mechanisms of genesis of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Nutrition and quality of life in the chronically ill.
  • Education and care for the ambulatory management of the oncologic patient.
  • Overweight and obesity in children and adolescents.
  • Sustainable food innovation.
  • Digital literacy for health care.
  • Simulation in perinatal health education.
  • Public health in relation to the aging of the female population.
  • Contribution of physical activity to the health and quality of life of the population, with emphasis on the elderly and special populations.
